My GAME Plan

The two standards that I need to improve on come from Domain 2 in the NETS-T.  One thing that interferes with improving anything in my blog is school policies.  The school policy is to do the same exact thing that my colleagues are doing to ensure consistency.  This enables me to implement any technology into the classroom.

The first strand is 2.a which states "design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity. My goal is to incorporate one technological activity into each of my 10 content units.  During collaborative planning with my colleagues at work, I will suggest activities that can assist in the learning of that unit.  After an activity is established, an assessment will be provided to evaluate the learning of the student and the validity of the activity. After the lesson has been played out, my department will collaborate once again to look at the results and determine if the activity will be kept.

The second strand is 2.d which states "provide students with multiple and varied formative and summative assessments aligned with content and technology standards and use resulting data to inform learning and teaching."  As a teacher, I am tired of giving paper/pencil assessments.  I would love to incorporate more technology but my calendar does not allow it.  My goal this semester is to implement informal assessments through the use of technology such as a blog or student journal.  This semester I am going to start off having my students make entries once a week.  From there, I will increase it more every semester so I can slowly increase my and my students involvement.

  1. I think you will be very intrigued by the amount of student involvement you will get from students. They love to use technology and often times I have found students don't find it as work but almost like it's something they just do before bed or during study hall maybe.

EdModo is a great way to get students to feed off each other or just journal. It a great way for you to collect assignment digitally from your students and leave comments. You can also have students join in discussions and post thoughts about a topic.

If you are interested in looking at an active EdModo account I would be more then willing to give a group code for my classroom or classrooms. I have all my students on here and they love it.

Good post and good luck incorporating technology into your units.

  2. Jennifer,

I am particularly interested in your second indicator of providing students with multiple and varied formative and summative assessments. I believe I am not doing badly in this area, as I try to incorporate many assessments in my classroom. I find that when we get students involved in the assessment process the learning experience is more enriching. When students have a say in the assessment process, it makes it easier for you to inform learning and teaching. Another informal assessment that can be incorporated in your class is voicethread, which can be used in and outside the classroom.

I endorse David’s idea of Edmodo. I use it in my classroom every day, and unbelievably, you really do not miss facebook. The children will certainly love it too.

  3. I appreciate the suggestions. I have lost my login and password information but I am going to play more with it so that I can start my students with it.

  4. Jennifer,

Your goals for your GAME plan are great. I rellly liked your idea of implementing 1 technology activity for each subject area. That is a great way to incorporate a variety of technology into the classroom. You also mentioned coolaborative time with colleagues. Do you have set time that you do that? I meetwith my grade levels colleagues informally on a daily basis, however, we do not have any specific or mandatory collaborative time established. Sometimes I wish we did because I think it would make the collaboration process more substantial and productive.

I also am getting tired of the typical paper/pencil tests. I too would love to incorporate more technology into my classroom but I don't have the time nor the tools to do so. In addition, I would have to take time to teach my students how to use the technology. I barely have time each day to get through what I HAVE to get through, I don't know how I would add more to my day. Teachnology can do so much for students such as build background and prior knowledge and enrich experiences. I wish I had the tools and time to use it more.
